Exclusive Notes by Tiara Jacquelina:

-->
I can’t believe that ten years has flown by, but people still talk about Puteri Gunung Ledang as though they watched it yesterday.
This project has been my greatest passion, and one that I’m most proud of. I put all my time and energy into the research, preparation (both as an actor as well as behind the scene as producer), publicity and marketing.
There’s something so special about the legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang that I can’t explain, but those who have watched the film know what I’m talking about. “The Spirit and The Journey” probably sums it up best for the project. It’s more than just a beautiful story, there is something very spiritual about the whole project, that just affected everyone working on the production, and I imagine it did the same for many people who watched it too.
I’m glad that we had the foresight, ten years ago, to invest in a Digital Intermediate (D.I.) platform, and although this was a really expensive route, and we were the first Malaysian (and possibly South East Asian) film to do so. The D.I. platform allowed us to digitally enhance the film, and add special effects to certain scenes, and allowed to to edit the film to different lengths for different purposes. All this has paid off today, because ten years after, we are able to revisit the film with fresh eyes, and re-edit and re-master the film for ditigal cinema.
Ten years after the movie was first screened, I’m still in awe of the dialogue written by Mamat Khalid, the beautiful cinematography by Jason Kwan, the sensitivity of the direction by Saw Teong Hin, and I’m generally just so proud that we made this special film. I also still can’t believe how we managed to put together such a stellar cast of top quality actors from Indonesia and Malaysia, in lead roles as well as supporting cast, and even in cameo roles. I’m very grateful to everyone who came forward to support me on my first outing as a film producer.
The PGL team and I set out to make a film that would “change the film landscape in Malaysia”, a film that would represent the country well and make Malaysians proud, a film that would bring Malaysians of all races to the cinemas in support of a local film. We certainly stopped at nothing to try to make this happen. It was no mean feat, and we were up against many, many challenges and steep learning curves, but we prevailed.”
