from the Film Business Asia newsletter Copy from Tuck Cheong Wong filem kita group By Patrick Frater Mon, 13 September 2010, 11:05 AM (HKT) Principal photography gets underway next month on Malaysian-language action drama Bunga Lalang. The film has already attracted the attention of sales agent Arclight Films, which will handle it through its Easternlight division outside South East Asia. The film is written and directed by Dain Iskandar Said with Nandita Solomon producing and Los Angeles based Tim Kwok of Convergence Entertainment as executive producer. Styled in the vein of Thailand’s Ong-Bak (องค์บาก) and Indonesia’s Merantau, Bunga Lalang is an action story featuring three estranged brothers – an assassin, a businessman and a kickboxer -- who plot against each other without knowing each other’s true identities. The cast includes Faizal Hussein, Hasnul Rahmat and Zahiril Adzim as well as local martial arts stars. The technical crew includes cinematographer Jarin Pengpanich (Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives ลุงบุญมีระลึกชาติ) and HK Panca (Macabre) as editor. Said, who has a track record in commercials, documentaries and media art, previously directed Dukun, a film about black magic that was financed by Malaysian major Astro-Shaw, but which proved too controversial to release theatrically. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
